Ecological parameter:  locomotion and substrate relation according to Tachet

Parameter group: life parameters

Explanation:
Organisms can be free-living or attached [temporarily ("tat") or permanently ("pat")]. The category "flier" ("flr") includes "active fliers" (e.g. aquatic adults of water bugs or beetles able to fly), but also "passive fliers", i.e. aquatic organisms passively dispersed by birds (e.g. leeches, parasites of vertebrates) acting as carriers. Aquatic invertebrates can be ("ssw") swimmers over (e.g. Gerridae) or under (e.g. Anophelinae) the water surface, ("wsw") swimmers in "full water" (e.g. Baetidae), ("crw") crawlers over the bottom substrate (e.g. Blephariceridae, Ancylidae), ("bur") burrowers within the first centimetres of the benthic fine sediment, ("int") interstitial (i.e. endobenthic), temporarily living in hyporheic habitats (e.g. Leuctra major). Eight categories have been defined.

Additional information:
Note that Several classifications of the Tachet database are on higher taxonomic level than on species level. To display them in the list please enable "include higher taxonomic units" in the "advanced search".
