Explanation:
The ITEM (Index of Trophy for European Macrophytes in Rivers) score provides information on the nutrient preference of a macrophyte species and thus provides information about the nutrient pollution (mainly phosphorous) of a river. The scale ranges from 1 (highly sensitive to nutrient pollution) to 10 (highly tolerant to nutrient pollution).
